was an Ottoman Greek painter born in the 18th century. He was commissioned by Sultan Selim III to do engravings of Ottoman sultans. However, following Selim III's deposition in 1807, the commission was cancelled.

The first painting of sultans belongs to IInd Mehmet (had Italian mother),and then for almost 3 centuries most sultan pictures are false, up to the end of 18th century as I stated earlier. This is mainly due to the fact that picture is regarded as a matter of sin for muslims. But IInd Mehmet(Fatih Sultan Mehmet) is different strong character so that,this commentary field is not enough to explain. After 18th century the real painting of sultans resumed as you stated.
